Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test
The Theory test was introduced by the DSA in 1996, it's aim to improve the safety of newly qualified drivers by making them think carefully about the right attitudes needed to drive safely on todays busy roads and reduce the risk of accidents.
The Theory test is taken on a computer at one of the local DSA centres:

The Theory test consists of 50 multiple choice questions, a minimum of 43 is required to pass. The test is available in a variety of languages other than English.
In 2002 the Hazarad perception test was added, this tests hazard awareness perception skills, this part of the test is sat on completion of the theory test. You will be shown 14 video clips which feature everyday road sense, in each clip ther will be a developing hazard. To achieve a high score you must respond in the early stages of the devloping hazard by clicking the mouse button. The pass mark is 44 out of a possible 75.
